Sofar Sounds Brings Tiny Desk To Columbus

Sofar sounds is a well known global community that connects artists and the audience through unique and intimate moments. They bring people together to create a space where music and arts matter in 400 cities around the world.

On this past Friday night, Sofar sounds brought the element of the NPR series Tiny Desk to Columbus, Ohio. The artists that performed were J Rosa, Co City and drummer/singer Greg Owen.

The event was held at 934 Gallery where concerts and art exhibits are held. Columbus is big on the arts. There are events in different parts of the city for poetry, RnB, Hip Hop, and more.

J Rosa is a music artist, producer, DJ, Queer Afro Latina, world traveler and percussionist. She is a woman that wears many hats. In her music she sends a message and is not afraid to speak her mind. She makes the type of music that we all call conscious music. One of her songs that stood out was called “Kill your idols,” which means never put another at the top and put all the loving into yourself. She was really one on one with the crowd and the crowd participation was A-1. She really connects and makes music that she loves.

Co-City is a living legend of Columbus, Ohio. He started with the legendary Hip Hop group The 3rd. Co-city is known for his raspy voice and serious punchlines. He will have you rewind a track and say to yourself, “wait…..say that again?”  Co-City stated, “I thank God every day that he is giving me the opportunity to be here and to give ya’ll good music. Doing this is my therapy and helps me get through whatever I am going through in that moment.” He continues to state, “I don’t think I am ever going to stop until God tells me to, so until then I am going to keep giving you all this great music and these great classic albums.”
