Black Trans women are a forced to be reckoned with, and they are never going to slow down. Black Trans women have been taken the industry by storm, being in film, music, politics, activism and more. Delequa is the prime example of a force to be reckoned with. She is a singer, songwriter, philanthropist, and actress. Delequa is a quadruple threat, and she is not slowing down anytime soon.
Delequa’s, based out of Delaware, gets her musical push from Beyonce because she says her music and ideals are of Black and queer empowerment that resonates with her. Delequa states, “I use my music as a means of self-love and motivation, for both me and my community.”
It has not and still not easy for Black Trans women and their expectance to live is not past 21 years old. In 2024, there 78% of victims of violence who were people of color and 56% were Black Transgender women.
63% were killed with a gun, 42% of the victims were killed by a romantic/sexual partner, friend or family member and 38% were misgendered or deadnamed by authorities or the press.
Black Trans women killings have been at an all-time high for decades and it never gets talked about unless social media creators like Delequa speak on this issue. Delequa is one of the blessed one who is in her 30’s still thriving and bringing joy to everyone that she meets.
Another Black Trans woman that is out here making moves is Professor Miss Melody. She is an activist, an actress and professor at Hillman Tik Tok. A topic that she touched on was gender-affirming care.
Gender-affirming care (GAC) refers to medical, social and legal interventions that support and affirm an individual’s gender identity when it differs from the sex assigned at birth (aamc.org, by Patrick Boyle, 2022).
Miss Melody says, “What the Trump administration is doing by getting rid of gender-affirming care is inhumane. It is our body; our choice and we have that right to do what we want without having the Government being involved.” She also stated, “I am on Tik Tok everyday making videos education people on gender-affirming care and raising money for not only myself to get the process but for other Transgender women.”
In 2025, the Transgender community has made it loud and clear that they will not be silenced and will continue to fight to keep their rights.
