The Wiz: An Ode to Quincy Jones

The Wiz is a classic film that premiered in 1978 as an African American musical directed by Sidney Lumet which came from the 1974 broadway musical The Wonderful Wizard of OZ by L. Frank Baum.

The cast consists of Dorothy who is played by the legendary Diana Ross, who is a school teacher in Harlem, NY and is trying to find her way in life. In the midst of that, her dog Toto runs out in the blizzard and Dorothy goes after him and they end up in Oz.

Last night at the event, a lot of people came out to watch this film with family and friends, even though we all have seen this movie over a thousand times. Some people brought their children to watch this classic film.

The reason for the event was to pay homage to the late great Quincy Jones that passed away this past November. Jones was the composer of music for the film and the soundtrack is a classic. He even made in appearance in the film as well.

I was not able to film or take pics while the movie was playing, but I was able to capture moments leading up to the film of people just having a good time and having no worries.

The Wiz was and still is a feel good movie and can bring people or families from all around together. This was a great night and something that was needed for everyone during this time.

There were moments during the film where we all had flashbacks of how we felt when we watched this when we were younger.  No matter what song started to play in that movie, we all started to sing.  Again, this time was needed and everyone came together and just loved on one another for just this one night.
